Edmonton Labor of Love

Southwest Greens of Western Canada took on a truly ambitious backyard makeover in Edmonton, turning a beautiful property into a self‑contained golf retreat complete with custom bunkers, breaks, and a full drainage system.

The team started by mapping out each contour, then brought in the highest‑quality synthetic turf and materials to match the homeowner’s standards. With so many breaks, low spots, and bunkers, proper water management had to be a top priority in Canada’s freeze‑thaw conditions.
An outside contractor originally did the design, and they planned to drain the water from the bunkers through PVC and into the pond. But because of the dust, dirt, and sheer volume of snow in Edmonton, the SWG team decided to drain everything into a gravity drain instead. For this, the crew hand-dug past the frost line and tarped off the sides, filling the hole with drainage rock.

Every layer beneath the surface was engineered to prevent surprises down the road. Even the smallest imperfection can affect ball roll, and the team wanted this project to be perfect. Only the Jack Nicklaus Golden Bear putting surface was good enough for this client, and it performs perfectly.
The end result is a challenging, championship‑style course that rolls true every time. Southwest Greens Western Canada is proud to deliver this level of precision and care on a project of this scale. Check out the fully finished project here.
