Sam Burns' Backyard Practice Setup

"Guess what my favorite putting green is? You got it — Southwest Greens. "  — Sam Burns

We are proud to showcase the backyard installation at the home of PGA Tour star Sam Burns. A five-time PGA Tour winner and one of the most consistent ball-strikers in the game, Burns has spent the past several seasons putting his name at the top of major leaderboards — including holding the 54-hole lead at the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont and entering the final round of the 2026 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale with a two-shot lead. When a player performing at that level picks Southwest Greens for his home practice setup, the choice speaks for itself.

Project Details:

  • 1,000 sq ft putting green — GB177 Golden Bear Putt, color 301
  • 1,500 sq ft lawn — 164SW, color 301
  • 144 sq ft sand bunker — artificial turf base with real sand
  • 2,644 sq ft total project

The putting green is built around GB177 Golden Bear Putt in color 301 — a surface chosen for its compact pile height, consistent pace, and true roll. For a player whose putting topped the PGA Tour's strokes gained rankings in 2025, having a surface at home that earns his trust is the whole point. Every session reinforces the feel and confidence that translates directly to tournament greens.

The 1,500 sq ft lawn in coordinated 164SW keeps the transition from green to fringe seamless, providing a natural-looking surround that doubles as a warmup area and landing zone for short pitch shots. The sand bunker takes the setup a step further — built with real sand over artificial grass, it delivers authentic bunker practice without the headaches of a traditional sand trap. Sharp edges, easy upkeep, real feel.

This is a backyard built the way Sam Burns plays — precise, purposeful, and built to perform over the long run.
